Following new security laws in Hong Kong, US tech giants have stopped responding to police requests to pass on user data. TikTok meanwhile, owned by a Chinese company, is pulling out of the territory entirely. The laws give authorities power to compel companies to remove content, notably pro-democracy messages, or face jail time and fines.
