he Black Lives Matter protests in the UK and the debate over public statues have shone a light on the nation’s imperial past and its continuing reverberations. Kenya was at the heart of the British Empire in Africa, with the country’s best and most fertile land owned by a small elite. The country gained independence in 1963 but land ownership and distribution remains a divisive issue. In the latest of a series of reports looking at Britain’s colonial legacies, Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting from Anne Soy in Kenya.
