Chef Jamie Oliver has suggested that the COVID-19 pandemic has ‘amplified the need for British children to be fit’. His comments come after the government unveiled a new strategy to tackle obesity, which is linked to high coronavirus mortality rates. These measures range from a ban on television adverts for food high in fat, sugar and salt before the watershed to the end of deals like ‘buy one get one free’ on unhealthy food. He added that lockdown has encouraged created conversations about nourishment and that ‘without question, people have been baking more, cooking more, and talking more about food’.
