Shell shock | Anti-govt protesters hurl eggs at politicians in Bulgaria

In Bulgaria you can’t make an omelette or bring down a government without breaking a few eggs it seems. Anti-government protesters there have turned to good old-fashioned political eggings to show their dissent. It’s strangely comforting when you see what’s happening in demonstrations elsewhere in the world. Thousands of protesters congregated outside Bulgaria’s parliament in Sofia as MPs arrived for an extraordinary sitting — many of them had to dodge dairy or tomatoes on their way in. It may have also been in vain, as the extraordinary sitting failed because not enough MPs turned up. Wonder why. In recent weeks, tens of thousands of Bulgarians have taken to the streets, camped out or gone on hunger strike in protest against Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s government. They accuse it of cosying up to oligarchs and of widespread corruption, calling for Borissov and his officials to resign.
