Belarus protest: Lukashenko deploys army as thousands rally | DW News

Tens of thousands of protestors in Belarus have taken to the streets of Minsk and other cities for a second Sunday in a row to demand President Alexander Lukashenko’s resignation, accusing him of rigging elections. Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus for 26 years, has accused NATO of trying to split up Belarus. He has ordered the army to mobilize in Minsk, saying the country was at risk of imminent attack. Opposition leader Sviatlana Tsichanouskaya said Belarusians would no longer accept Lukashenko as their president.
