Sir Ed Davey has said the Liberal Democrats need to ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ as he became the party’s fifth leader in five years. Former leader Jo Swinson lost her East Dunbartonshire seat in 2019 after 12 years as an MP. Sir Ed won 42,756 votes, beating his rival Layla Moran – who received 24,564 votes.
