A North Korean ship washed up in Eastern Russia after Typhoon Maysak’s high winds broke its moorings. When it originally washed up on the shores near the city of Nahodka, 85km east of Vladivostok, locals thought it was uninhabited and dubbed the fishing vessel a ‘ghost ship’ – instantly creating a tourist attraction. However, it later turned out that 12 North Korean fishermen were on board, but hadn’t wanted to make themselves known. With good reason. They’d earlier been arrested by Russian border guards for poaching and their ship had been moored with the fishermen still inside. But when the typhoon hit, the ship was torn from its anchor and washed ashore. No casualties have been reported.
