Newspapers delayed by Extinction Rebellion: ‘The billionaire press is anti-climate action’

Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Donnachadh McCarthy said the printing sites of the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Times were targeted because the group wants their “tax haven billionaire owners” to “take climate change seriously”. He accused the Murdoch-owned Sun of supporting fracking and a reduction in taxes for fossil fuel companies. More than 60 people have been arrested during protests by the climate activists outside two printing presses – which have led to a delay in some newspapers hitting stands. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Priti Patel both called XR’s actions “completely unacceptable”.
