Demonstrators took to the streets in Philippines to protest against the state of democracy in the country and mark the 48th anniversary of the declaration of martial law made by former Philippine’s president Ferdinand Marcos. They drew unfavourable comparisons between the current government of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Marcos administration, condemning Duterte as a ‘fascist’. Protesters later burnt a combined coronavirus-Duterte effigy as night fell.
