The KM was the largest aircraft in the world when it was developed by the Soviet Union in the 1960s. It was called the Caspian Sea Monster, and was used by the Soviet and Russian navies from 1987 to the late 1990s, before sinking into the Caspian Sea during a testing failure. When the US unexpectedly discovered it again, suddenly the spies became very interested.
