The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra began to serenade scared audience members who were locked inside the theater after the show, due to the ongoing terror attack outside. Police kept everyone inside the Vienna State Opera until it was considered safe to come out. Whilst the people were waiting, the orchestra decided to perform a special encore, aiming to soothe the civilians with a symphony.
