But that doesn’t change the grim reality of poaching across Africa, pushing many species to the brink of extinction. There are only two of Kenya’s northern white rhinos left – mother and daughter – after the last male died in 2018. All is not lost, though, as scientists experiment with in-vitro fertilisation.
