Prof Jonathan Van Tam has warned that low uptake of the new Pfizer vaccine will mean social distancing and other restrictions will have to last longer. England’s deputy chief medical officer said anyone who is offered the vaccine should take it ‘if you want this dream to come true’. Low uptake will almost certainly make restrictions last beyond the spring, especially for some individuals in vulnerable groups, he said.
