Policy makers in Glasgow believe the pandemic may have contributed to an increase in drug use as latest figures show heroin and morphine has affected families on a record level. Figures from the National Records of Scotland show that in 2019, 1,264 people died from drugs misuse – 77 more than in 2018, which is a 6% rise. The UK government has control over the law on drugs but the Scottish government has set up a taskforce to also help tackle the issue.
