The government’s chief scientific adviser has suggested that more areas in England may have to enter Tier 4 due to the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19. In a Downing Street news conference, Sir Patrick Vallance said it was ‘likely that measures will have to be increased and not reduced in some areas’ to make sure the ‘right restrictions’ are in place.
