Although the UK has reported its highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a single day, the deaths actually occurring each day are still not as high as they were last spring. Deaths can occur days or weeks before they are officially announced. The number is especially volatile at the moment since we had a number of bank holidays over the Christmas and New Year period.
