The French government wants to limit homeschooling by issuing specific permissions to families. Up until now, all they had to do was inform their local authorities. The new law would see homeschooling reserved for children suffering from illness or those undergoing intensive sports or musical training. The proposed legislation takes aim at families who homeschool their children to supposedly subvert France’s much-cherished value of secularism. But impacted families say they have the legal right to teach their children as they see fit.
