Honduran President Xiomara Castro said she was shocked by what she described as the “monstrous murder” of the women, which she blamed on powerful street gangs, adding that she would respond with “drastic measures”. The riot occurred at prison in Tamara, about 30 miles (50km) north-west of the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, local authorities said.
