Recent data shows the Himalayan glaciers are melting at a disturbing speed, with experts warning they will mostly disappear by the end of this century. A report from the Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development says the Himalayan icefields could lose up to 80% of their volume this century if greenhouse gas emissions aren’t sharply reduced. It also warns that flash floods and avalanches will grow more likely in the coming years.
