Why is illegal drug use so high among young Africans? | DW News

At least 42% of adolescents in Sub Saharan Africa are into substance abuse, the UK’s BioMed central reported. In Ghana, illegal use of tramadol and marijuana among the youth is high. Although Ghana’s drug policy forbids the distribution of such illicit drugs, they are the most accessible. Many drug addicts are seeking refuge in the forest during the day. Experts warn the country could face challenges if the trend continues. DW Maxwell Suuk has been speaking to some of the young addicts who blame unemployment for their addictions.
