England football fans were hoping that, as reigning European Champions, the Lionesses would get their World Cup campaign underway with a roar against Haiti, a team ranked outside the world’s top 50. But England, hit by injuries and uncharacteristically goal shy of late, needed a retaken penalty to secure victory, with Haiti surprising many with the quality of their play.
