Largest wildfire in EU this year has burned 700 square kilometers | DW News

Emergency crews across Greece battle to contain multiple blazes, including one that’s the largest wildfire recorded in the EU this year. Greece’s summer of wildfires shows no sign of abating. One fire near Alexandroupolis in the east has burned more than 700 square kilometers of land. Officials declared it to be the largest the European Union has seen this year. Greece is asking for help from other countries to battle the fires – some of which are being blamed on arson. We spoke with our correspondent Sofia Kleftaki in Athens, and asked her what the situation is like around Athens.
