Turkish authorities say they’ve detained 20 people with links to a Kurdish militant group that claimed responsibility for Sunday’s suicide attack in the capital Ankara. The interior ministry said the suspects were taken into custody in Istanbul and a province east of Ankara. The banned Kurdistan Workers Party or PKK claimed responsibility for Sunday’s blast at the ministry’s gates. One assailant blew himself up, and another was shot dead by police. For decades, Turkey and the PKK have been waging a violent conflict over Kurdish rights in Turkey. This was the first bomb attack in Ankara in years. Turkey also said it launched air strikes in neighboring Iraq’s northern Kurdish region in response to the attack. Speaking in parliament shortly after the suicide blast, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that military strikes could continue.
