Heated debate between hostage relatives and Israeli lawmakers | DW News

Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas appear to be on the verge of an agreement to release some of the hostages held in Gaza. According to a statement cited by several news agencies, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said negotiators were ‘close to reaching a deal.’ The agreement would see a swap of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails in exchange for Hamas setting free a significant number of the hostages they abducted from Israel on October 7th. A temporary truce of several days is reportedly part of the deal, which would additionally allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
