Rishi Sunak has defended his commitment to reducing legal migration to the UK after figures published yesterday showed that it has soared. Net migration to the UK for the year to December 2022 was revised up from 606,000 to 745,000. For the year to June this year, net migration stood at 672,000. The figures have provoked fury from Tory backbenchers as the party has promised to cut net migration over its 13 years in government.
