Families, friends and other supporters of the hostages in Gaza have been gathering on Saturdays in a square in Tel Aviv for weeks. FRANCE 24’s chief foreign editor Rob Parsons reports that the overall mood there is “determined”, with most people seeming “more or less to trust the Israeli government to get it right in their approach to seeking the release of the hostages. Some people have a preference for taking the negotiations route, others put their trust more in the Israeli Defense Forces.” The situation on the ground in Gaza, Parsons reports, is mostly unchanged following the US veto on Friday of a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, with Israeli forces “pressing both in the north and increasingly in the south”.
