After five days of negotiations to avoid a US veto, the UN Security Council adopted a text on Friday calling for the “immediate” delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. “I think the big question will be how Israel will take this decision,” says Sami Sockol, reporting from Jerusalem. One of the ways that Israel has been putting pressure on Hamas is through the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, as Hamas has repeatedly said that it will not surrender unless they feel some sort of pressure through the lack of delivery of humanitary aid or from the people of Gaza. Instead, says Sockol, the US has been exerting pressure to ensure that these trucks are able to enter the Gaza Strip, a position that angers Israeli authorities. “The question is whether these trucks and whether this distribution will reach the northern part as Israel is continuing its ground offensive,” says Sockol.
