On January 13, millions of Taiwanese will be casting ballots for a new president, but also new lawmakers. The current president, Tsai Ing-wen, is constitutionally unable to seek a third term. For the three candidates vying to replace her, these elections are crucial, as they look set to determine the future of relations between Taipei and Beijing, which claims the island as its own territory. With the threat from China looming, cross-strait relations have been a key issue in the election campaign. Our correspondent reports.
