Cyclone Belal reached France’s Reunion Island, located in the Indian Ocean, at 1:00pm local time. The storm circled the island, making landfall on the north and east coasts. Belal is no longer expected to become an intense tropical cyclone. Nonetheless, residents are still under a strict lockdown and nearly 130,000 households are already reported to be without electricity. FRANCE 24’s Julia Sieger tells us more.
