Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has described comments by Benjamin Netanyahu that a two-state solution to the conflict in Gaza was off the table as “disappointing”. The Israeli prime minister said last week Israel would not accept an independent Palestinian state on its border. Mr Shapps said the international community recognised that a two-state solution was the only solution to the violence.
