How did Ecuador descend into gang violence? | BBC News

Ecuador is under a state of emergency amid a surge in gang violence. Earlier this week, the country’s military said it seized about twenty tonnes of cocaine – the biggest haul yet – as the government declares war on organised crime cartels. BBC News Analysis Editor Ros Atkins looks at how the country got to this point.
