Home Secretary James Cleverly has told Sky News he does not want the Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle to resign over his handling of a Commons vote on Gaza. He said Sir Lindsay “made a mistake. He’s apologised for the mistake. My view is that I’m supportive of him”. Chaos erupted in the Commons after the Speaker broke from convention by allowing a vote on a Labour amendment to an SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
