Labour peer and human rights lawyer describes Rishi Sunak’s speech as ‘sinister’

Baroness Chakrabarti, the Labour peer and human rights lawyer, says the most “sinister” part of Rishi Sunak’s speech on Friday was the prime minister “almost suggesting that he has read the riot act to the police”. When challenged by Trevor Phillips about her use of the word sinister, Baroness Chakrabarti says she uses it because of the “cheek” of Mr Sunak. She adds that she does not think “people in Britain want their politicians to be deciding how particular police operations should be conducted”.
