London Mayor Sadiq Khan has criticised the Conservative Party and Rishi Sunak for not labelling reported comments made by major Tory donor Frank Hester as “racist”. The Tory donor admitted to making “rude” comments about Diane Abbott, for which he was “deeply sorry”, but said they had “nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin”. Speaking to Sky News, Mr Khan said, “What Rishi Sunak needs to do is grow a backbone and have courage,” adding that the PM had “failed to call out the Islamophobia, anti-Muslim hatred, and racism against me”.
