Supporters of Senegal’s anti-establishment candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye celebrated Sunday night after local media channels started announcing polling station tallies that gave him a strong lead in the country’s presidential election. However, official results are not expected until the end of the week and the governing coalition said it was certain the vote would head to a second round.
