Amazon rainforest: Fewer trees lost to deforestation in 2023 | BBC News

The number of trees lost in tropical forests in Brazil and Colombia “fell dramatically” last year, according to new analysis.

​​The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world, and 60% of it is in Brazil, where tree losses were down by 39% in 2023.
​​
Colombia also slashed their forest loss by nearly half compared to 2022.
​​
Researchers said it is down to political action and new leaders who have prioritised the environment.
