In a speech on welfare changes, Rishi Sunak has said the UK has to change a ‘sicknote culture’ in which people take long-term leave from work. The prime minister announced fresh curbs on disability benefits, saying he wanted to explore whether some cash payments to claimants with mental health conditions could be replaced by treatment or access to services. ‘We don’t just need to change the sicknote, we need to change the sicknote culture so that the default becomes what work you can do, not what you can’t,’ said Sunak
