A think tank has warned any future government would have to find £8bn of cuts to fund the government’s planned increase in defence spending.
Rishi Sunak announced on Tuesday he was pledging to increase spending by £75bn by 2030 to put Britain on a "war footing" against threats from China and Russia.
However, the Institute for Fiscal Studies warned the pledge would mean cuts to public services while Labour branded it a pre-election "gimmick".
