Rishi Sunak’s northern ‘Blue Wall’ faces a major political stress test this week with a by-election in Blackpool and a mayoral vote in Tees Valley.
The two seats used to be solid Labour constituencies – part of the so-called Labour ‘Red Wall’ – until Boris Johnson persuaded them to vote Conservative.
