People in Baghlan, Afghanistan are grappling with the aftermath of flash flooding that struck multiple provinces in the country on Friday.
Nearly half of the 200 confirmed deaths reported by the UN occurred in the Baghlan province, making it one of the hardest-hit areas. Approximately 1,500 homes have also been damaged. A significant portion of agricultural land – essential for the livelihoods of over 40 million people, constituting around 80 percent of the population – has been submerged.
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in response to the crisis, and various branches of the defence ministry and the air force have been mobilised to provide assistance.
