French President Emmanuel Macron will be traveling to New Caledonia signalling confidence in the efforts made by authorities in quelling the unrest. However Australia and New Zealand have began evacuating nationals from New Caledonia on Tuesday, following a week of growing protests in the country over proposed changes to the French territory’s voting system. Those indigenous to the archipelago now fear not only that their vote will be diluted, but that the changes could bring about a civil war.
