Sunak says Rwanda flights will not take off before UK general election

Rishi Sunak kicked off his election campaign in Ilkeston, central England, on Thursday, saying he expected to see flights taking asylum seekers to Rwanda ‘by July’.

In a downscaling of plans to begin the flights in early June, Sunak said they would start in July, adding the caveat: ‘If I am re-elected as prime minister on 5 July, these flights will go’
