Shyam Rangeela, an Indian comedian known for his videos of mimicking Narendra Modi, made headlines when he vowed to take on the prime minister in his home seat of Varanasi as the country votes in general elections. However, when he went to file his nomination papers, he claims he was prevented from doing so, leaving him unable to stand as a candidate. But while his bid to beat Modi at the ballot box may have failed, he has succeeded in posing critical questions over the fairness of India’s election process, says France 24’s Leela Jacinto.
