Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says no decision has been taken yet on whether Diane Abbott will be allowed to stand as a Labour candidate in the upcoming general election.
Ms Abbott – Britain’s first black female MP – claimed yesterday she had been barred from standing for Labour in her Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency.
Two other Labour members considered to be on the left of the party have also been barred from standing.
Sir Keir insisted to Sky News Labour was selecting candidates based on their quality, not their politics.
