Five years ago, the German Green Party won more than 20% of the vote in the European elections, a polling tidal wave for Alliance 90/The Greens, as the party is formally known. However, the Green Party is now part of Olaf Scholz’s coalition government, and despite the nuclear phase-out, the party’s period in power, and a number of controversial decisions – on coal in particular – are pushing many voters, particularly younger ones, towards other political groupings.
