Emmanuel Macron defends calling French snap elections | BBC News

French President Emmanuel Macron has defended his shock decision to dissolve parliament and call elections.

He said calling elections was the only republican option and urged French voters to come together and “say no to the extremes”.

Macron’s decision to call two rounds of elections in June and July has left the Conservative republicans deeply divided.
