China’s Premier Li Qiang has arrived in Australia on a four-day trip and met with the country’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The visit is the first by a Chinese leader in seven years and it marks improving ties between the two countries.
Both China and Australia will see the visit as central to addressing outstanding trade and consular issues. Climate change, trade and even panda diplomacy has been discussed.
China is seeking to increase its influence in the South Pacific, expanding security and economic ties with island states that are historically allied with Australia.
