Joe Biden’s campaign is scrambling to contain the fallout from Thursday’s election debate against Donald Trump. Democrats hoped the showdown would re-shape the presidential race, and dispel any doubt about Biden’s fitness to serve a second term. Instead, they saw him deliver a stumbling performance and struggle to counter attacks and false claims from Trump. To get some different perspectives we spoke to Sebastian Schäfer from Germany’s Green Party, Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook of the Bertelsman Foundation, and Julius van de Laar, a former campaign advisor to former US President Barack Obama.
