As promised, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo swam in the River Seine in an attempt to alleviate concerns that the water was not safe for swimming, ahead of the open water events for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
French President Emmanuel Macron had earlier promised to join her but ultimately did not. The River Seine had been closed to public swimming since 1923, due to dangerous levels of pollution in the water.
