The incumbent president of France’s National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, won re-election in the third and final round of voting in the legislative body on Thursday. Centrist allies of President Emmanuel Macron in the parliament are saying that Braun-Pivet’s victory shows that their bloc has a simple majority, indicating that France’s next prime minister ‘should be from their ranks’.
